Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
What a statement to make by the Apostle Paul, "Be anxious for nothing...." It almost seems as though he carelessly makes this bold proclamation without even trying to relate to the problems we encounter in our everyday walk. How can he say that I should be anxious for nothing when the mountains that I face are so huge that there is nothing left of my life but to fixate on them?
Firstly beloved, I want you to take note of the fact that when Paul wrote this letter, he was in a prison, by prison I mean the dungeons from back in his time. When sitting in a prison cell, you have every reason to be anxious because you are sitting with the biggest and the “baddest” problems next to you in the natural. However Paul; in the midst of his surrounding says be anxious for nothing and just keep praising and thanking God.
You see friend, part of the problem that causes us to not have supernatural peace and become anxious in the midst of a storm is that we are not thankful enough to God in the midst of that storm. It's almost as though we think that the storms are too big for our God and they catch Him by surprise, therefore He can't get us through it. You see, once you are thankful in the midst of it all, it illustrates how much you trust God to bring you through it and as a result the Holy Spirit begins to minister to you and suddenly there is hope. When there is hope, there is faith filled with the expectation that you will get through it. That hope that comes from God when you didn't see a way out of your storms produces a peace in your heart and mind that cannot be explained naturally.
Begin to thank Him in the storms and watch as His peace begins to guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. "Through Christ Jesus" shows you that it's coming from Christ in heavens (which is His Deity) made manifest into humanity (Jesus). It is a peace that cannot possibly have been created for human understanding. It's a peace that comes from knowing that God and His quality is bigger than any storm we face.
Always remember, according to Romans 8: 37- 39 that in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing (I think Paul put this part in here so that you can fill in the gaps), shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So friend, begin to thank Him through it and allow the peace of God to guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
