A group of highly established young people in their careers, got together one day and decided to pay their old university professor a visit. Upon their arrival at the University, the professor was so glad to see all of them and that they had become successful in their different ventures in life. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor asked: “Have you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones?” “While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”
Matthew 6: 33, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously (The Coffee), and He will give you everything you need (The best for your life- Cups).”
As suggested in this illustration above, if God is like the coffee (note God is not coffee), then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. What you really want is the Coffee and not the cups. What your life really longs for, thirsts after, desires, NEEDS is the Coffee not the Cup. And the Scripture assures us that the things (which represent the cups) will be added by Him to you and we all know that when He adds to you, you have no room to contain it.
John 4: 10- 13
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
The same thing Jesus did for this women is what He desires to do in your life. He wants to fill your life to the point that you will never hunger nor thirst again. The above scripture is metaphorically referring to the fact that He desires to fill your life with everyhting that you need to accomplish what He has called you for.
You see friends, the way you are looking for is found in Jesus, the truth of who you are is in Him and the life you are seeking after is His. Seek the Way, the Truth and the Life and live the life you were born to die for.
